Healthy Spiced Cranberry Cherry Sauce Recipe- keto and paleo

This keto and paleo spiced cranberry cherry sauce is the perfect accompaniment to your Thanksgiving meal. Unlike traditional cranberry sauce that is loaded with sugar to offset the tartness of the cranberries, this sauce uses cherries and orange juice to balance out the flavor.  Coupled with a bunch of seasonal spices this cranberry sauce delivers the utmost in terms of flavor.

Serve this healthy spiced cranberry sauce alongside your turkey, stuffing, and other Thanksgiving favorites.  You can easily make this cranberry sauce a few days ahead and warm it up before you serve your meal.

I strive to create healthier versions of my favorite sauces so if you are looking for more options, try these: Romesco Sauce,  BBQ Sauce,  or this Tartar Sauce

Why You’ll Love This Recipe For Cranberry Sauce

  • Simple to prepare
  • Ketogenic, paleo, and gluten-free
  • Easily customizable, add or remove spices to your liking

Ingredients To Make Spiced Cranberry Sauce

  • Fresh cranberries – It is cranberry season so fresh cranberries should be available. If you can’t find fresh you can use frozen.
  • Frozen cherries – Frozen cherries help balance the tartness of the cranberries.
  • Orange juice – I used freshly squeezed juice, it tastes way better than juice from concentrate. You can also use peeled orange slices to add more fiber.
  • Ginger – I grated fresh, organic ginger.
  • Star anise – If you can’t find star anise you can substitute fennel, Chinese five spice, or allspice.
  • Cinnamon – I used a touch of organic cinnamon.
  • Cardamom – You can buy cardamom pods and crush them or buy ground cardamom.
  • Allulose or monk fruit sweetener – You can add a little or as much sweetener as you like.

Pro Tips

Here are a few things you can do to make sure your cranberry sauce works out every time:

  • Use fresh spices so they are really flavorful. Spice intensity wanes over time. This recipe is dependent on the spices so make sure your spices haven’t been sitting around too long.
  • Keep frozen cherries and or cranberries on hand, they last a long time and are great for smoothies too.
  • Use fresh ginger. Nothing compares, dried ginger just doesn’t impart the right flavor.

Storage

This flavorful cranberry sauce will keep in the refrigerator for several weeks.
