  • glass jar

How to Make

Making this strawberry chia jam is easy- just follow the instructions below and you will have a tasty homemade jam made from fresh fruit in no time. There aren’t a lot of steps to make this recipe and it’s beginner friendly.

  1. Remove the stems of the strawberries, and slice the strawberries in half.
  2. Place the strawberries, lemon juice, and honey in a saucepan over medium-high heat.
  3. Allow the mixture to boil lightly for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the strawberries are softened, start mashing the mixture with a potato masher or a whisk until it reaches the desired consistency.
  5. Remove the pan from heat, add the chia seeds, and stir until well combined.
  6. Transfer the jam to a jar, and allow it to cool for about 15-20 minutes. Place the lid on the jar, and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  7. Because this jam does not contain preservatives it will last a couple of weeks in the refrigerator. During strawberry season, I make several jars and keep them in the freezer. Jam freezes very well and then you can enjoy this fruity jam all year long!

Storage

Store the jam in the fridge in an airtight container. I prefer to use a glass jar. It will last in the fridge for up to a couple of weeks.

You can also freeze this jam for about 6 months in the freezer. You can freeze it in a glass mason jar. Just make sure to leave some headspace.

Pro Tips

Here are a few tips to help you make this easy homemade strawberry chia jam recipe.

  • If you choose to freeze your jam, make sure to leave about ½ an inch of headspace in the jar. This will help to prevent the lid from popping off when the jam expands during freezing. Be sure to label your jars with the date so you can keep track of how long it’s been in the freezer.
  • If you like a sweeter jam, add more honey to the recipe.
  • For a tart jam, add an extra tablespoon or two of lemon juice.
  • If you want a thicker jam, add an extra tablespoon of chia seeds.
  • This strawberry chia jam is delicious on toast, with pancakes or waffles, or even on top of yogurt or No Oats.
  • When storing this jam in the refrigerator, be sure to use a clean and dry spoon to avoid contaminating the jam with bacteria.
  • If your strawberries are very sweet you may need less honey or you can leave the honey out altogether.
