Hot chocolate is a favorite at our house and this healthy version beats hot chocolate with refined sugar and corn syrup any day! With just a couple simple ingredients, you can feel good about serving this hot chocolate loaded with magnesium and antioxidants in the form of real cacao powder.

Equipment

  • saucepan
  • frother

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp cacao powder unsweetened
  • 1 cup milk of choice unsweetened, I love cashew milk!
  • sweetener of choice to taste monkfruit sweetener, honey, maple syrup, stevia, or allulose syrup

Instructions

  • Heat your milk of choice on the stovetop in a small saucepan- be careful not to boil the milk, just gently heat it
  • Add a heaping tablespoon of unsweetened cacao powder to your mug
  • Pour the warm milk over the cacao powder and using a frother, mix well
  • Add your sweetener of choice: honey or maple syrup are good paleo sweeteners and allulose, monkfruit, or stevia will make this hot chocolate low carb, blood sugar-friendly and keto
  • Serve with a a sprinkling of crushed candy cane, a few dark chocolate shavings, or a homemade healthy marshmallow!

Notes

Find the recipe for a bulk mix of hot cocoa in my downloadable book "Herb Salts and Spice Mixes". A jar of healthy hot cocoa mix makes a lovely gift!
